Below is a list of information you should look over before deciding Quick Links To This Section You can buy as many copies of your book as you like directly from us. These books can be used as you see fit. The amount you pay for your order is the exact amount we pay, plus a 5% service fee for handling. This is another area of comparison that we encourage you to explore. Examine a similarly priced package offered by other print-on-demand publishers and compare apples to apples. We believe you will not find a more author-friendly and liberal package for similar services anywhere. We pay the author 80% of the net on all sales made.
In conjunction with Lightning Source, Inc., our printer and primary distributor, we allow you to set the price of your book, set the amount of the wholesale discount you pay to book dealers, and set the wholesale return policy on your books. There are no printing or shipping costs involves in eBook sales so the discounts can be higher while still allowing you to make a reasonable profit. We are always happy to assist you in deciding the terms you set for book distribution, but yours is the final decision. We feel the amount of profit you make is directly related to the number of books you sell, not how high a price you set.
You are the author and with OP, you set the sales price. You own all rights to your book. Best of all, you are not required to price your book out of the mainstream market, as most POD publishers demand.
That paragraph bears reading again. If you want to sell your book it has to be reasonably priced. We have four core beliefs about publishing and selling books. First, to make good sales you must produce an excellent book, both in quality and content. Second, your book must be competitively priced. Third, you need to make your book available to the widest audience possible. This is why we like to offer your book in as many formats and through as many venues as possible. Wider distribution and multiple formats make your book available to a broader segment of readers and can generate more sales. Finally, although presented last, it is probably the most important factor for success. If you expect to sell your book you must do your marketing. We go into marketing concepts elsewhere, but selling your book must become your job, your obsession. You have to build your name as an author; no one else can do it for you. You have to get people to give your book a try and when they do, they will love it. No one sells a book better than its author.
We strongly believe in the multiplatform approach both in formatting your book and in marketing yourself as an author. There is an inspiring quotation from YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley at a Conference in Cannes, France in October 2008- "There is no old media. There is no new media. There is one media with one common purpose; to inform, move and inspire the world through information, art and entertainment."
We believe there is no one medium that books should be published in. Many people believe a book is not a book unless you can hold it in your hand, turn the pages and fold the corner to keep your place. Yet there is another growing segment of readership that loves the freedom they get from eBooks. They love the fact that their eBook reader can hold hundreds of books that will never wear our, get torn or have folded corners from a previous read. We want to make your book available to the international reading community, regardless of their preference on formats and platforms. We work only with quality manuscripts we believe will be a hit. Your book must be as good as or better than the competition in the genre. It has to have an obvious audience and it must be grammatically correct. We work with you to achieve the main objective, book sales. By publishing only top quality manuscripts we are building a brand that consumers can trust. A book published by Omega Publications will always give the reader a good value for their money. Top of Page...

We do not recommend this feature if you wish to sell your book through the normal distribution channels. Make this change - add $50

Each version has a separate ISBN and each is listed for sale through our distribution program and on your page on our web site. Basic Package with Two Versions - add $100
Proofreading, which we call a SPaG edit for spelling, punctuation and grammar, is included in all our packages. Typos, spelling errors, incorrect punctuation and poor grammar are unacceptable in an OP book.
If it is determined by the Editing Department that additional line editing is required, the author must approve the additional service and agree to work in a coordinated effort with their assigned editor. A line edit provides SPAG editing along with sentence structure, word choice, repetitiveness, grammatical choices, clarity and continuity, awkward phrasing and flow.
Line Edit -$2.50 - $3.00 per page. Author participation is required when in-depth editing is needed. This edit looks into structure, flow, style and consistency. Your assigned editor reads your manuscript from start to finish before consulting with you, so he/she is familiar with the story and can speak to events and characters with accuracy and knowledge. Together, author and editor work through POV slips, catch intermittent flow problems or character inconsistencies, perfect sentence structure and word choices while developing a smooth, seamless finish. The objective is to improve readability and general appeal by creating a flawless end product. This is our most often-used extra editorial service. Book covers are the biggest single draw to your book after name recognition. They call to the reader and have to stand out in the crowd. The allure of a book cover has a huge impact on its customer appeal. Your cover should fit the perception and standards the reader expects from your genre. Another area that requires attention is how your book cover will look online. On most web sites, including Amazon, a reader will only see your book as a small thumbnail. This thumbnail image is one of the most important promotional tools your book has and we always take this into consideration when we design your cover. Our design team will work with you to provide the look you think your cover needs, although the final determination rests with our design team, we welcome your input and opinions about how your cover will be presented.
We offer professional cover development incorporated into all our publishing packages: We have a simple Author Compensation Program. We compile all sales of your book in any format through any source into one Quarterly Compensation Report. We deduct any charges and expenses we incur from these sales and we take a 20% commission on the net profit. This leaves 80% of the net profit for you. This net profit is often called royalties by other POD Publishers.
The proceeds from sales are paid to you when the total due exceeds $100.00. All amounts due at the end of each calendar year are paid regardless of the amount.
Note: If you have chosen to make your books returnable, the charge for returns is deducted by Lightning Source before they make payments to OP. Due to the nature of print-on-demand orders, returns are considered to be an unusual occurrence. Book sellers prefer to have the option of returning books that don't sell, so we suggest you utilize the third return option. You always have these return policy options when working with Lightning Source as a distributor. We can change your return policy at any time with 45 day notice to Lighting Source.
Sales through MobiPocket and Amazon Kindle Editions and other eBook Distributors.
Sales from our Web Site.
Before you decided to publish your book with Omega Publications or anyone else, we strongly suggest you perform due diligence and conduct a thorough comparison. Familiarize yourself with what different companies offer and how we differ. Watch for charges on extra services that OP includes in the package price.
Compare the publishing contracts and look at the rights the company asks for. We only ask for non-exclusive rights to publish your book ... nothing more. Your book belongs to you and the rights to your book belong to you. Finally, take special note of the prices the other POD houses assign to their author's books. OP leaves the price of the book up to the author. As long as the list price meets or exceeds costs incurred, the price is the author's decision. We suggest pricing your book competitively against traditionally published books. If Stephen King is charging $8.95 for a 250 page book, then your 250 page book can't be expected to sell well for $16.95, can it? When you shop for a book, isn't price one of your main considerations? Of course it is. Be realistic. You want fans, an audience who will buy your books on the strength of your name alone. Be competitive. It's your choice, but you have to start somewhere, so make it count. Being a published author is becoming easier and more affordable and authors who gave up ever seeing their works in print are encouraged as never before. Competition improves the quality and performance of any industry, and offers the author a wide range of choices in publishers.
A website can be an important tool to successfully build an author's online presence. A custom-designed site allows authors to communicate easily and effectively with readers, to build a fan base and to allow search engines to find you more easily.
If you wish to have a separate author's web site about you and your book(s), we can create one for you and host it, through our hosting account, under your own domain name. Examples- www.yourbooktitle.com or www.yourname.com.
We will provide you with a list of the available web site addresses, also called a domain name or a URL, before we begin work on your site. Once you select your web address we will register it in your name for the first year at no charge. The annual renewal of your domain name is charged at $15 and will be added to your account fees when it come due along with the semi-annual billing for maintenance fees. We can purchase the registration for multiple years on your request.
Our basic author's site package includes up to six pages:
●Home Page ●Book Page including; About the Book(s), Excerpt, Accolades/Reviews and Buying Information which directs the viewer to your page on the OP site and/or to your page on Amazon. ●Author Page which can include a Bio, Photo, Interview, Contact Information and Book Signing Dates and other information provided by you. ●A site map to help search engines find you. Plus one or two additional pages, this might include: ●Links (linking to other sites of interest to your readers. For example, publisher and agent websites, genre sites, topical or thematic sites, fan sites.) ●A Basic Press Kit, with information provides by you. We can help write this material at an additional cost. ●Photo Page.
Web site traffic is tracked and statistics are available through webalizer at no additional charge. You can check your stats at any time using a specific URL which we will provide.
About Marketing Other publishers will offer you elaborate "marketing kits" with business cards, flyers, post cards and other materials, all produced at your expense. While it is the author's choice to use mailers and flyers, Omega Publications does not feel they are worth the cost. Your primary marketing focus should be online or in person. This is where you will have the best return on your efforts. Neighborhood bookstores often support local authors through book signings and showcasing of a new author. Smaller newspapers are receptive to interviews and the Entertainment Editor might be interested in giving you a review.
Just The Facts
Check them out. Know what you're getting for your money and hold a finished product they published in your hands. What they produce for others is indicative of what they'll produce for you. Then look at the interior pages with a mainstream book in the other hand for comparison. Do you see obvious deviations in format? Does the print smear with the least encouragement? Is the binding tight or does it feel like it's about to fall apart? Do you see uneven alignment of paragraphs, perhaps incorrect line spacing, or our all-time favorite, obvious SPaG, spelling, punctuation and grammar errors?
We urge you to perform at least a nominal comparison search because we know you'll agree with us. Omega Publications produces great books available at a competitive price. The finished product brings pride to author and publisher alike. We know we give a great value, but that isn't enough; we want you to know it, too. We want you to publish with us, confident that OP will get the very best possible book to the reading public. We give the author the opportunity for success with a product that will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any book on the shelf.
When we sell your book on our web site in print format, the book is shipped from Lightning Source and we are billed for the printing costs plus shipping. We deduct the total amount we pay from the sale amount. We take our 20% of the net profit as commission. The remaining 80% is added to your balance due.
You also receive profit on each eBook sold through our web site. We record each sale and deduct 20% of the proceeds as our commission and the remaining 80% is added to your balance due on your monthly Compensation Report. Each of these items is included in the Quarterly Compensation Report. When the amount of the royalties due exceeds $100.00 the total amount is paid to you. We can pay by check or by direct deposit to your checking account. All balances due at the end of each year are paid regardless of the amount. Top of Page...
We can also add your digital version to the MobiPocket bookstore where they will be sold as MobiPocket Books and Amazon Kindle Edition Books. We are paid 35% of the list price from Amazon Digital Services and your profit is 28% of the sale price, after our commission. There are no printing or shipping costs involved and there are no returns.
With other eBook distributors the distributors commission is 20% we receive 80% of the sale price and you receive 80% of our net. Commission amounts paid to eBook distributors may vary.

When your book is sold through the Ingram distribution channels, either in print or in digital format, Lightning Source provides a monthly sales report for each title. They pay the amount due 90 days after the transaction occurs. We add this information to your Compensation Report. We total all amounts paid to us that quarter, deduct 20% as our commission and add 80% to your balance due.

It is very important that you read and understand the publishing agreement for your book before you sign it. All POD companies are not the same and the contract spells out the terms that you will be working under as you book is published. We have included a sample of our agreement on this PDF for you to review.
